The 'Escape From
Colditz' Webshrine

Hello all!

This site is dedicated to the computer game "Escape From Colditz". For anyone who is wondering, it doesn't really have anything to do with the main FreudianSlap site, its just hosted in the /escapefromcolditz subfolder. Although "Escape From Colditz" was released on various platforms, this site concentrates mostly on the Amiga version. I don't know what all the differences are in the versions, but I'd be happy for someone to get in contact with me and tell me!

For those who dont already know, escape from colditz is about (you guessed it..) escaping from colditz castle, which was used as a German POW camp in world war II. The game (In my opinion) is incredibly difficult, and I myself have not managed to fully complete the game without cheating. This means that there is currently no walkthrough on this site. (Or indeed in existence, to my knowledge.)

A prisoner "excercising" in the outer courtyard...

The game is played in an isometric environment, and the player must collect items such as keys, uniforms and candles in order to escape. Of course, plenty of Nazi guards are patrolling the castle at all times, in order to hinder your escape as much as possible. If you are caught by a Nazi in an area you shouldn't be in, you will have your possesions taken from you, and be subjected to a time in solitary confinement. Trying to leg it from these guards is not usually a good idea, as the chances are they will shoot you for trying to escape. These guards never miss. NEVER. They can even shoot through walls...

It is possible to collect a Guard's uniform, which can then be worn so as you can cunningly disguise yourself as a Nazi... Of course the guards aren't that stupid, and if caught you will be promptly asked to provide a pass to prove you are what you are attired as. Passes can be found lying around the castle, just like every other object. You can only, however use a pass once. Once it is used, it is discarded from your inventory.

Dressed as a Nazi guard. Nice decor.

A network of tunnels (presumably built by previous escapees) lies in the foundations of the castle. These tunnels can aid your escape, but crawling through them will severly fatigue your men. Youll need a saw to access the tunnels from inside the castle, a pickaxe to access them from the outside. A candle to see as you crawl through them, and a spade (???) to break the exit on the way out. Like every other item in the game these items dissapear into oblivion when used.

The game is very buggy in some places, and smells of "not finished but we'll release it anyway" syndrome. Half the items don't do anything, or have a use, the guards come at you from all directions asking for a pass when you are wearing a uniform, in some places your man can just plain get stuck, and by some undiscovered method of 1940s Nazi science, the German guards can shoot through walls.
